Private Palace Dinner, Jaipur

Jaipur's palaces are not all open to the public in the same way, and a handful, still run as heritage hotels rather than museums, offer private dinners in settings that a day visit never reaches. This experience arranges a candlelit dinner at one of three such palaces, the specific venue confirmed once we know your dates and its availability.

The Raj Palace, in the old walled city, is known for an intimate, personally hosted dinner, its rooms decorated in the ornate style of a Rajput court, with staff trained to a single table rather than a full dining room. Narain Niwas Palace, a heritage hotel built around the former residence of the Kanota family, serves dinner in a secluded gazebo set among its gardens, away from the hotel's other guests. Rambagh Palace, once the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur and now one of India's best-known palace hotels, offers traditional Rajasthani dishes in grounds and interiors built for royal entertaining.

Whichever venue is confirmed, the format is similar: a private table for your party, a welcome drink on arrival, and a meal built around Rajasthani classics such as laal maas, a lamb curry coloured with Mathania chillies, dal baati churma, and other dishes drawn from the region's royal kitchens. Staff at each of these properties can talk through the building's history and the courses as they arrive, without turning the evening into a formal tour.

Dress smartly; some venues ask for closed shoes in the evening. The best season for an outdoor or garden setting is October to March, when evenings are cool rather than cold. In the hottest months, April to June, dinners are more likely to be arranged indoors.

The evening lasts around four hours, including hotel transfer. Hotel pickup and return, a multi-course Rajasthani dinner, a welcome drink and a short introduction to the venue's history are included. Alcoholic drinks beyond any included pairing and gratuities are not.
