Customised Private Hangzhou Tour: Choose Three of Twelve Sights
West Lake, Lingyin Temple, tea plantations or the wetlands, picked from a list by you and your guide

What makes this different
Hangzhou has more sights than a single day allows, which makes the choice of what to see the main difficulty. This listing turns the choice into the heart of the tour: you select three attractions from a list of twelve, and a private guide builds the day around them. Weever Tours runs it, and the GetYourGuide page gives it a rating of 5.0 from six reviews, with a private group, a downtown hotel pickup and an air-conditioned vehicle. The day lasts eight hours, the guide speaks English and Chinese, and the price is per person.
The twelve options on the page cover most of the city's themes. West Lake is the first, with a walk along the shore or a boat cruise, for which the listing quotes a boat ticket of 50 yuan per person. Lingyin Temple, with a history of about 1,700 years, is a place of Buddhist worship and costs 75 yuan to enter. The Meijiawu tea plantation is a village known for tea, where you can try picking leaves and taste local food at a farm, and there is no admission fee. The Yunxi Bamboo Path, at 8 yuan, is a quiet walk through bamboo groves. The Sijiqing clothing market suits shoppers, since Hangzhou is a clothing centre. Guo's Garden, at 10 yuan, is a Qing-dynasty private garden on the lake, and Leifeng Pagoda, at 40 yuan, can be climbed for a view of West Lake.
Three more options are shows and parks. The evening light and music show on West Lake, performed daily from 19:30 to 20:30, was first staged for the G20 summit and directed by the director of the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, according to the listing, and the VIP ticket is quoted at 450 yuan. The Song Dynasty Theme Park, at 350 yuan, is built around a large performance. The Longjing tea fields can be toured for free, to learn about tea production, and Xixi Wetland Park, at 140 yuan, lets you drift by boat through the wetlands. Hefang Street, a historic commercial street, is free to enter.
The listing warns that the sites you visit may differ according to your interests, since the tour is personalised. In practice, you should expect to spend 90 minutes to two hours at each major site, which is why the choice is limited to three. A typical combination for a first visit is West Lake, Lingyin Temple and a tea village, while a nature-minded traveller might choose Xixi Wetland, the bamboo path and the tea fields. An evening show means a late finish, so mention it when you book.
The price was US$249 per person on the GetYourGuide page when we checked in October 2026. The package includes the private tour guide, the air-conditioned vehicle and the downtown hotel pickup and drop-off. Tickets to attractions, lunch, drinks and souvenirs are listed separately, so budget for the fees quoted per site, together with a meal. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before the start for a full refund, and the booking can be made with pay later.
Seasonal timing affects the choices. Spring is the best time for tea and blossom, and the first leaves of the year are the most valued. Summer is hot and humid, so choose shaded sites and boats, while autumn brings osmanthus scent and clear skies. In winter the lake can be misty and quiet, and a light snowfall is a rare treat. Chinese public holidays are extremely crowded, and ticket queues can be long.
Take your passport, since many sites check identity documents, and carry some cash or a mobile payment method for tickets and snacks. Wear comfortable shoes for walking and stairs, and bring a hat, an umbrella and water. The tea villages are on hillsides, so shoes with a grip help.
Allow for travel time between the sights. Hangzhou's traffic can be heavy, and the tea villages and the wetland are on the edge of the city, so each transfer may take twenty to forty minutes. That is another reason the listing limits the choice to three. In spring, a tea village adds the chance to try picking leaves and to taste Longjing made that morning, and the guide can explain how the grades are determined, with the first picking of the season the most valued.
Payment is easier than it used to be, but plan ahead. Many shops and ticket offices in China use mobile payment apps, and while foreign cards are accepted in an increasing number of places, small vendors may take only cash or apps. Carry yuan in small notes for entrance fees and snacks. Your guide can help you buy tickets and order food, and can recommend a restaurant for lunch, since lunch is not part of the price.
The tour suits travellers who want to shape their day, first-time visitors with a specific interest, and families or friends who like a personal pace. If you prefer a fixed programme with all tickets included, other listings may be better, but you give up the freedom to choose. Visitors from Shanghai should consider arriving on an early train to make the most of the eight hours.
