What it is

Palace Hotel Tokyo stands at 1-1-1 Marunouchi, on the moat opposite the gardens of the Imperial Palace. Its own site gives 266 rooms and 18 suites, and ten restaurants and bars, each with its own design. The site does not state an opening year, only a legacy of more than half a century, so we do not give a date.

Our Japan autumn itinerary lists it beside Aman Tokyo for the two Tokyo nights and describes it as overlooking the Imperial Palace moat.

The spa and the recognition

The hotel runs evian SPA TOKYO, which it describes as having panoramic views of the Imperial Palace gardens, five private treatment rooms, a spa suite, heated baths, a marble sauna, a cold plunge pool and separate relaxation lounges for men and women.

The hotel's site also lists recognition it has received: the Travel + Leisure World's Best Award 2026 for best hotel in Tokyo, the MICHELIN Guide 2026 Three Keys distinction and a Forbes Travel Guide five-star rating. These are the hotel's own statements about rankings by others, and we have not checked them against the publishers.

Rooms and the rate

The rate in our itinerary is US$483 a night, a figure from HotelsCombined. The page does not tell us the room category or the date, so it is a rough guide.

Who it suits

It suits first visits to Tokyo for travelers who want a central address by the Imperial Palace and a choice of restaurants in the building, and who are happy to stay in a large hotel.

It is a poor fit for anyone who wants a small, residential hotel. With 284 rooms and suites it is a large one.

Ask the hotel
  • Which rooms look over the moat and the palace gardens, and what is the price difference?
  • Which of the ten restaurants and bars are open in the month we travel?
  • Does the quoted rate include breakfast?
  • Is the spa open to non-guests, and does it need booking?
  • What are the current rates for our dates, with taxes and service charge?
