What it is
Capella Bangkok opened in 2020 and is run by Capella Hotels and Resorts. It stands on the Chao Phraya River in the Yan Nawa subdistrict of Sathon district, on a campus it shares, with the same ownership, with the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok. Wikipedia does not say who the owner is, and it names no architect or designer.
It has 101 rooms. The riverside villas have private gardens and plunge pools.
A ranking, and what it means
Wikipedia reports that the hotel was placed first in the 2024 edition of The World's 50 Best Hotels, a list published by William Reed. That is one publisher's ranking for one year, and we have not stayed at the hotel, so we pass it on as a fact about the list and not as a judgement of ours.
A note on the itinerary
Our Thailand family itinerary lists Capella Bangkok as one of three Bangkok options and calls it an all-suite hotel on the Chao Phraya. Wikipedia gives 101 rooms and does not say how many are suites, so the two descriptions do not match exactly. Ask the hotel for its current room list before you rely on either.
The itinerary puts it in Charoenkrung, while Wikipedia gives Yan Nawa in Sathon district. Check the address when you plan transfers.
Rooms and the rate
Mr & Mrs Smith shows a starting rate of about US$720 to US$820 a night for the cheapest double, including taxes and fees, as a rate supplied by the hotel and converted from baht on the day. It is a snapshot, so the figure on any given day will differ.
Our Bangkok price in the itinerary uses The Peninsula Bangkok, not this hotel, so choosing Capella would raise the total.
Who it suits
It suits travellers who want a small, high-end hotel on the river and are ready to pay for it, for two nights in Bangkok. The villas with their own plunge pools suit a stay where the room is part of the plan.
It is a poor fit for a tight budget, and families should check whether connecting accommodation is offered.
| Rate | Amount | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Cheapest double, from, per night, taxes and fees includedSupplied by the hotel for stays in the next 60 days and converted from baht on the day, so it moves. | About US$720 to US$820 | Mr & Mrs Smith, Capella Bangkok |
