What it is

Zannier Phum Baitang is a hotel of 45 private villas on the outskirts of Siem Reap. The hotel's page says they are built on stilts in the style of traditional Cambodian houses and have terraces or swimming pools, in grounds of 20 acres among rice paddies, sugar palms and wooden stilt houses.

The page names two restaurants, Bay Phsar and Hang Bay, serving Cambodian dishes and international classics, and a Sunset Lounge with colonial-style cocktails. It gives no opening year.

Where it sits

The hotel is on the edge of town with access to Angkor Archaeological Park. Our honeymoon itinerary lists it as the villas among rice fields west of town, one of the options for its three Siem Reap nights beside Amansara. The hotel's page does not say which side of town it is on, so check the address when you plan transfers.

Rooms and the rate

Mr & Mrs Smith lists the cheapest double from US$308 a night, taxes and fees included, for stays in the next 60 days. Our honeymoon itinerary does not price its Siem Reap nights at this hotel.

Who it suits

It suits couples and others who want a private villa in a rural setting, a drive from the temples, with space and quiet around them.

It is a poor fit for anyone who wants to walk to the restaurants and bars of the town.

Ask the hotel
  • How far is the hotel from the center of Siem Reap and from the Angkor ticket office?
  • Which villas have a private pool, and which a terrace only?
  • Does the rate include breakfast and a transfer?
  • Does the hotel arrange temple visits and guides?
  • What are the current rates for our dates, with taxes and service charge?
